Looking back at March 2017

Share

1st April 2017

We’ve just passed the first quarter of 2017 and we’re now until April.

It’s been a busy March with many ups and downs, let’s take a look back:

  • A sad story that dominated March headlines was the attacks at #Westminster. On the 22nd March 2017 a terrorist attack placed in the vicinity of #Westminster, London. The attacker drove a car into pedestrians on the bridge before crashing into the fence of the grounds where he fatally stabbed a police officer. The attacker was then shot by an armed officer who died at the scene. At the time of writing this piece a total of five people have died, with another 50 injured some critically. Although the attack was a shock to the country and the world, it did bring everyone together in terms of showing their support for London on Twitter with the #WeStandTogether.
  • The UK has announced a ban on #Laptops and #Tablets on flights from six #MiddleEast countries. Nothing larger than a smartphone will be allowed inside the cabin on planes from #Turkey, #Lebanon, #Jordan, #Egypt, #Tunisia and #SaudiArabia. This was brought in to effect to clamp down further on any further possible terrorist related attacks.
  • #Brexit was back on the agenda in March where Theresa May officially triggered #Article50 which starts the process of the UK leaving Europe on the 29th March 2017. President of the European Council Donald Tusk has received the UK’s letter which will trigger #Article50. This now gives the UK two years to start negotiating its exit from the European Union.
  • #ComicRelief was back on our screens in March. People across the country supported #RedNoseDay and #ComicRelief in raising as much money as possible. On the Friday night of the show #ComicRelief managed to raise £73 million which will go to some great causes.
  • #DayLightSavings is always a time in the year that we look forward to. Bringing lighter evenings and it also starts to make people think of Summer! We for one welcome the lighter evenings.
