Looking back at July 2017

Share

1st August 2017

July has gone a little bit under the radar for us, it seems to have flown past and not a lot seemingly going on. I’m sure lots has happened that I’ve been unaware of so let’s have a look back at July:

  • A huge topic that has got everyone talking over the course of June and July was #LoveIsland. With the show now over, we now know who our winning couple are *SPOLIERS AHEAD*. Kem and Amber are this years #LoveIsland winners with Kem deciding to split the £50,000 prize money with Amber. Until next year #LoveIsland.
  • On the night of the 20th July a powerful #Earthquake hit a #Greek island and mainland #Turkey. The #Earthquake is known to have killed at least 2 people and injuring over 100 people. The #Earthquake measured at 6.5 on the Richter Scale. Land was flooded by waves from a #Tsunami that was triggered by the #Earthquake. At the time of writing the countries are still recovering from the devasting effect the #Earthquake has caused and I can imagine they will be for some time. Our thoughts and sympathies goes out to everyone effected.
  • Another sad topic that was in the news throughout July was the story about #CharlieGard. The story gripped the nation as the parents of terminally-ill #CharlieGard as the court rejected their plea to intervene in life-support fight. Off the back of this public figures like #DonaldTrump stepped forward offering his support if the child could make it to the US for experimental treatment, a last attempt to save his life. At the end of July #ChrisGard and #ConnieYates withdrew their request to have #CharlieGard flown to the US as it was ‘too late’. For Charlie it was sadly too late, the damage has been done and the parents say it is no longer in Charlie’s best interest to pursue the course of treatment. Our thoughts are with #CharlieGards family at this difficult time.
  • Something that happens every July in the footballing world is the official opening of the #TransferMarket where clubs across Europe can conduct business to improve their squad. Whilst there is a lot to talk about we thought we would briefly check in on some of the highlights so far. Arsenal have recruited well in a new striker with #AlexandreLacazette whilst Chelsea have also bought a new striker in #AlvaroMorata after deciding #DiegoCosta no longer had a future at the club. Everton have had a great summer also after bringing #WayneRooney back to the club from Manchester United. On the subject of Manchester United they are another Premier League side who have recruited a new striker in #RomeluLukaku. There are many other clubs who have done great business this summer with the likes of Manchester City spending big in defence and West Ham signing some additional attacking power. We will take a look back when the #TransferWindow closes to see who has done the best business.
  • Sticking with sport, July sees the return of #TheOpen and we have seen some exceptional golfing. #BrandenGrace has been a big talking point during #TheOpen after breaking major single round record with 62. #BrandenGrace made eight birdies in his bogey-free, eight-under-par third round. After making birdie on the par-four 16th and par-five 17th, #BrandenGrace needed just a par on the final hole to break the record — which he did with two putts. Huge congratulations to #BrandenGrace! Who are you backing to with #TheOpen?
  • An additional point to our usual 5 point update, is the sad passing of #BradleyLoweryAt the age of 18 months, he was sadly diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, he was successful in beating the Cancer initially and went into remission. In July 2016, Bradley relapsed. Specialist and progressive treatment for this kind of Cancer is not available in the UK and #BradleyLowery was sent abroad for specialist treatment. Bradley touched the hearts of everyone in the UK and even overseas, Bradley sadly passed away on the 7th July 2017. Our thoughts are with the family, sleep tight little man!
